The organising team of the 2011 Alpine Rally of East Gippsland are delighted to announce that 2 of the most iconic and well known cars in Australian rallying will be making a return to the stages in this years' event.
IYK-000 is probably the best known rally car in Australia today. An Escort RS 1800 it's currently owned and has been immaculately restored by John and Helen Hadden. The car was brought out from England in 1976 by Ford Australia for Colin Bond to mount an assault on the Australian Rally Championship. Driven by Greg Carr it won the championship in 1978. This car also won the Alpine in 1977. You will see IYK at spectator point 1 on Friday and spectator point 3 on Saturday.
BOA-775 is equally well known. This is probably the fastest Datsun 120y ever created. It was built by ex Nissan Team mechanic and suspension guru Jamie Drummond for George Fury, ostensibly to win the Alpine. Unfortunately the car was never able to complete it's mission but left the people who saw and heard it in the forests around Bright with many fond memories. The car is now owned and restored by Jason Lea who will bring it all the way from Queensland to another Alpine. You will see BOA at spectator point 1 on Friday and spectator point 2 on Saturday.
The organisers of the Alpine would like to sincerelt thank both John and Jason for making both these iconic cars available to once again be seen in action in the forest.
